Legal Aid of Marin Stands in Solidarity with Tenants Impacted by San Rafael Fire

San Rafael, CA. Legal Aid of Marin (LAM) stands in solidarity with the community members and families displaced by the devastating apartment fire in San Rafael on August 21, 2025. While it has been heartbreaking to witness so much suffering, we are deeply inspired by the way the City of San Rafael, Canal Alliance, and community partners have come together to support those affected.

LAM’s role in this matter is necessarily limited. Although this fire resulted in mass displacement and the tragic loss of housing, the legal remedies available to tenants fall primarily under personal injury and insurance litigation. LAM’s expertise is in defending tenants facing eviction or unlawful detainer actions, representing workers in recovering stolen wages, and helping to alleviate fines and fees faced by the most marginalized Marin community members.

LAM dedicates so much of our work to protecting marginalized tenants. In tragic situations such as this fire, we will continue to support tenants by providing warm referrals to trusted attorneys with expertise in pursuing personal injury claims and insurance litigation.

Legal Aid of Marin remains steadfast in its mission to create an equitable Marin by empowering the community through legal representation, advocacy, and education. In this difficult moment, our priority is to stand with impacted community members, support our partners, and ensure that displaced tenants are connected to the appropriate legal resources.
