The purpose of Medical Legal Partnerships is to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families by addressing issues that can impact a patient’s health, but are outside the purview of a traditional doctor-patient relationship.
Even when families are able to access health care at community clinics, problems — such as defective living conditions, domestic violence, debt, threat of homelessness or disability needs — often persist. These legal issues also tend to create great stress that exacerbates other medical conditions. LAM’s staff addresses many of these legal concerns with education, advice and appropriate referrals that could not otherwise be found in the medical clinic setting.
The Marin Medical-Legal Partnership was created in 2007 to provide office hours for legal services at the Marin Community Clinics and other nonprofit medical providers. Office hours are currently on hold as we seek new sources of funding for the partnership.
