Our Impact

Each year, Legal Aid of Marin (LAM) provides thousands of Marin residents with access to direct civil legal services and resources. Our service areas include: eviction defense and homelessness prevention legal services; wage claims and employment law; consumer debt legal services; fines and fees alleviation; and estate planning. Staff members work collaboratively to bring services to the communities we serve by engaging in regular outreach where our clients live, work, and gather in partnership with communitybased organizations across Marin. We practice trauma-informed lawyering and are dedicated to increasing Marin County residents’ access to justice.

Brief Description of Position

This position supports LAM’s legal services by assisting LAM’s employment attorney in providing employment (and occasionally immigration) legal services to LAM’s clients.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Duties Include:
    • Collaborate with attorneys on case development, client communications, hearing preparation, and drafting legal documents
    •  Conduct client intakes at LAM’s San Rafael office, by telephone, and at off-site outreach locations
    • Maintain complete and accurate client files in case management database and other systems
    •  Address client needs holistically through effective referrals
    • Provide interpretation between Spanish and English as needed 
    • Provide administrative support, such as creation and maintenance of informational flyers, client files and data entry 
    • Assist with planning of presentations, workshops, and community outreach 
    •  Collaborate with community partners to facilitate clients’ access to these resources
    • Support thorough data collection practices to meet program goals and report program outcomes in a timely manner
    • Maintain complete and accurate client data for tracking and reporting 
    • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Qualifications:
    • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, both spoken and written
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to build consensus and contribute to collaborative environment
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quickly shifting priorities and meet deadlines
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to respectfully communicate and collaborate with clients, attorneys, coworkers, and community partners
    • Willingness to accept feedback and address areas for professional growth
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to perform detailed work
    • Ability to multi-task, be proactive, and work independently
    • Excellent computer skills, including data entry and Microsoft Office
    • Strong interest in serving marginalized & under served people in Marin
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance
    • Knowledge of Marin County’s resources and organizations

Compensation:

Pay is $31 per hour (40-hour work week). This is a non-exempt and full-time position. Overtime hours are permitted, but only at the discretion of LAM’s Executive Director. Benefits include paid holidays, vacation leave, sick leave, health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan participation, and employer contribution to retirement after six months of employment.

On-Site Requirement

This position will require three days per week of on-site work in San Rafael, California. This position may be authorized for remote work two days per week after an initial training period, however, candidates must be flexible to increased on-site work when required by their supervisor and to meet organizational goals.
