Legal Aid of Marin was founded by the local bar and has been serving the community for over 60 years. We are the only non-profit civil legal services provider in the county covering all of these practice areas.
Legal Aid of Marin has closed over 52,000 client matters since 1987 and throughout our history, we have worked to continually assess the evolving landscape of Marin County and strategically respond to changing needs and opportunities as they arise.
We provide an annual economic benefit of at least $4.5 million to the communities we serve. Our experienced team has assisted over 10,000 homelessness prevention and eviction cases, and resolved over 3,000 wage claims on behalf of low-wage workers.
In response to an increasing need for a local restorative justice forum, Legal Aid of Marin formed the Marin Community Court in 2011. Our goal is to help homeless defendants, and others living at society’s margins, to confront the justice system with confidence. Through collaboration with the Marin Superior Court and the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marin County, we have since assisted more than 1,000 Marin residents to resolve their current or outstanding minor infractions (e.g. jaywalking, sleeping in public parks), and allow them to turn their lives around with a fresh start.
By working directly with clients, client groups, and trusted service providers, Legal Aid of Marin deeply understands the ways policies and systems can work against our clients’ needs. This plays a key role in our long-standing mission to ensure marginalized communities receive the legal information and representation they deserve.
